A well-maintained rug enhances your living space and preserves its beauty for years to come. Follow these care recommendations to help maintain its appearance, texture, and durability.

Regular Care

Vacuum your rug regularly to remove dust and dirt before they settle into the fibers. Move the vacuum slowly and in the direction of the pile for the best results. Any standard vacuum cleaner is suitable, provided the manufacturer's instructions are followed.

To minimize dirt build-up, place a doormat at entrances and avoid wearing outdoor shoes on the rug whenever possible.

For rugs with fringes, avoid vacuuming directly over the fringe, as it may become tangled or damaged. Instead, clean around the edges carefully.

Natural Characteristics

Every rug has unique qualities that develop naturally over time. These are normal characteristics and should not be considered manufacturing defects.

Shading

Some areas may appear lighter or darker depending on the viewing angle or lighting. This natural effect, known as pile shading, occurs as the fibers reflect light differently and may also develop in areas of regular foot traffic.

Sprouting

Occasionally, a few fibers may extend above the surface of the rug. Do not pull them, as this may damage the weave. Carefully trim the loose fibre level with the surrounding pile using small scissors.

Color Variation

Slight color changes may occur over time due to normal use, natural light, and the aging of fibers. Rotate your rug every 6 to 12 months to encourage even wear and a balanced appearance.

Shedding or Fibre Loss

New cut-pile rugs may shed loose fibers during the first few weeks of use. This is a normal characteristic and will gradually reduce with regular vacuuming. Empty the vacuum container or dust bag frequently during this period.

Spot Cleaning

Blot spills immediately using a clean, dry, absorbent cloth. Avoid rubbing, as this may spread the stain deeper into the fibers.

For tougher stains, use a cleaning product specifically designed for rugs or carpets. Always test it on a small, inconspicuous area first. Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, solvents, and excessive moisture, as these may damage the fibers or affect color.

For persistent stains or periodic deep cleaning, we recommend using a professional rug cleaning service.

Outdoor Rugs

Outdoor rugs can be cleaned with water and a mild, neutral soap to remove everyday dirt and surface stains.

Rinse thoroughly and allow the rug to dry completely before placing it back into use.

Additional Tips

  • Rotate your rug periodically to encourage even wear.
  • Use a suitable rug underlay to minimize movement and help protect flooring.
  • Blot spills as soon as they occur to reduce the risk of permanent staining.
  • Avoid leaving the rug damp for extended periods and allow it to dry completely after cleaning.
  • Avoid prolonged or uneven exposure to direct sunlight to help minimize uneven fading.
  • Lift heavy furniture when repositioning it to help prevent fibre compression.
